The TECHNICAL task force researches and develops solutions for coastal web atlas (CWA) advancement, especially the semantic interoperability between CWA through the use of ontologies. Technical task force members include:

The STRATEGIC PLANNING group is tasked with developing the long-term mission and objectives of ICAN, as well as how best to implement our vision and obtain needed resources. As such, this group identifies suitable funding opportunities and responds to calls for grant proposals. The working group is also concerned with raising awareness and promoting the benefits of ICAN to the developer and user communities, including non-technical, high-level decision makers. The GOVERNANCE working group is tasked with creating and implementing a governance model for ICAN, including procedures for admitting primary and associate members, and the structure and function of a central coordination group, a steering group, and issues of technical task force governance. The ASSESSMENT working group is concerned with assessing how CWAs are used by different user communities, and if user expectations are being met. This may include carrying out a comprehensive baseline inventories of existing coastal atlases and their functionalities. Assessement working group members include:
